  • In the Press Democrat, from 4 March 1928: "Northern Members Of L.A.P.W. to Lunch in Berkeley." Edith Granger Hawkes, along with Nell Griffith Wilson and others, represented their branch at a luncheon. This was one of a series of luncheons "through which members of the northern leagues hope to cement the bands of friendship, as well as strengthen the foundation of their order."

  • In the Press Democrat, from 24 June 1928: "League Entertained Saturday At Kelly Home." The Sonoma county branch met at the home of their vice president, Sarah Hammond Kelly of Spring street. After routine business, the remainder of the afternoon was devoted to a discussion of literary markets. Edith Granger Hawkes and Nell Griffith Wilson were among those in attendance.

  • In the Healdsburg Tribune, from 4 June 1931: "County Pen Women Present Program." Members of the Sonoma county branch presented a program before the Pacific Coast Congress of the California League of Pen Women. Nell Griffith Wilson, the retiring president of the county group read her poem "The Winds of Memory" and along with her artist sister Grace Allison, they presented a section of their musical recital. Edith Granger Hawkes of Fulton was elected president. Other new officers were Celeste G. Murphy, vice president; Nell Griffith Wilson, secretary-treasurer; Grace Griffith Allison, historian.

  • In the Healdsburg Tribune, from 26 June 1931: "Pen Women to Fete Junior Group." The Sonoma county branch members were to entertain the junior students of the group at Griffth grove. Edith (the president of the league) and Nell Griffth Wilson (secretary) arranged the outing.

  • In the San Jose Evening News from 11 May 1933: "Pen Women to Participate in Conclave: Governor's Wife will be Honor guest at S.F. Meeting Saturday." Edith, as president of the Sonoma County branch of the League of American Pen Women, was to participate in discussions and present a program. Charmian London was one of the guests at the luncheon.

  • In the Berkeley Daily Gazette from 4 November 1940: “California Poets to Present Program.” Edith is listed as one of the members of The Sonoma County branch of the National League of Pen Women who were to read poems at the California Poets monthly meeting. Nell Griffith Wilson was to also be reading poems at the event (Wilson is mentioned in the 1940 and 1941 letters to Charmian.

  • In the Berkeley Daily Gazette from 16 November 1944: a brief article titled “Berkeley Poetess is Guest Speaker” notes that Sarah Hammond Kelly was the houseguest of Edith Granger Hawkes of Sacramento. Kelly is noted as the recently appointed national chairman of poetry for the National League of American Pen Women. Kelly was a “well know writer of both serious and light verse” and in private life, was the wife of Charles B. Allen.
