Mr. P.W. Coussens

P.W. Coussens was thanked by Edith Granger in her preface to Granger’s as the person who wrote the first draft of what would become the Index.

In the 100-year history Columbia University Press, 1893-1983, Henry H. Higgins describes Columbia’s contracts with A.C. McClurg & Co., the wholesale book dealer and publisher of the Index. “Granger’s was originated by one member of their staff (P.W. Coussens) and edited by another (Edith Granger).”

Penrhyn Wingfield Coussens completed other work which contributed to literature and libraries. It appears that Coussens found a passion for children's literature and compiled and edited several collections for children.
