Song of the Bird

The image below was shared with me by a woman who's great grandmother traveled around the world and kept an artists journal. She had artists and poets sign her book. She felt that both the drawing and poem were the work of Edith. It is dated June 30th 1901. I have transcribed the poem next to the image.

Edith also collected autographs. According to Martha's manuscript, in Chapter 17, when Edith was in high school, autograph collecting was at its height. Edith continued her hobby into college.

Drawing of a woman in the Art Deco style with flowers around her and she is wearing a long robe or toga style dress, the poem by Edith Granger is handwritten next to the drawing in decorative script.

Song of the bird and insect's hum --

Roar of the restless sea --

Thunder-clouds roll and summer rain

Joining in chorus free!

Echoes of long-lost Eden lays

Thrilling the summer air --

Promise of sweeter, fuller songs

Heaven with God's earth shall share?

June 30th 1901. Edith Granger
